Johannesburg – The old adage, “The more things change, the more they stay the same,” aptly describes the goings-on at the South African Football Association (SAFA), where Danny Jordaan was reelected president.
In the highly publicised elections, held on Saturday, 12 September 2026, Jordaan retained his position as SAFA President, beating his rival Sandile Zungu by 157-82 votes.
Jordaan, who turned 75 earlier this month, on 3 September, won the mandate to remain at the helm of SA football until 2030.
The losing candidate, Zungu, the owner of AmaZulu FC, conceded defeat and thanked his supporters, saying he had never seen such passion.
The businessman is also the founder and executive chairman of Zungu Investments Companywhich as interss in various sectors.
Commenting on the outcome of the SAFA elections, Sports, Arts ad culutere minsite rGyton Mckenzie said in an X post: “Congratulations President Danny Jordaan, let’s usher in a completely new era in our football, make your legacy one that gets spoken about many years from now. Mr Sandile Zungu we say in Afrikaans, ‘aanhouer wen’.“
