Kano police warn Sanusi, Bayero against horse riding, threaten arrest

The Kano Police Command has issued a stern warning over horse riding by the two rival Emirs of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero, saying anyone who violates the ban will be arrested.

The command said, “That any person, institution or organisation that deems it very pertinent to undertake any form of Durbar, and/or Horse/Animal-Riding activity in public place in the State is required to give at least 72 hours prior notice in writing to the Kano State Police Command through the Office of the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori”.

Speaking to newsmen about a threat by the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, that “nobody will stop him from going on horse riding despite government banned”, the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said anyone who violated the order would be arrested.

He said anyone who wanted to engage in horse riding should notify the police 72 hours in advance to enable the necessary security assessment and arrangements for public safety and order to be made.

“It would be recalled that the Kano State Government, after due consultations with relevant security stakeholders in the state and in its efforts to preserve public peace and order in the State, recently pronounced a ban on all forms of durbar and horse-riding activities throughout the State. Reports indicate apparent breaches of these security directives,” he said.

Bakori further said that the Kano State Police Command, in conjunction with relevant security agencies in the state, reiterated that the executive security directives regarding the ban on Durbar and horse-riding activities remained in force and were binding on all persons in the state, irrespective of their status or position.

“The threats which necessitated the ban were put to serious checks and are still potent.”

“As you are aware, the primary responsibility of the law enforcement and security agencies is the maintenance of public peace, safety and order. We cannot afford to allow any act that will breach the peace and jeopardise public safety,” he stated.

“All concerned are therefore urged to comply strictly with all lawful security directives and to cooperate with the security agencies.”

“We want to assure the good people of Kano state that the law enforcement agencies remain resolute, united and committed to enforcing the law and safeguarding public peace and order in the state,” Bakori added.
