Sporting Lisbon Expected to Dismiss Amorim’s Replacement After Only Eight Games

Sporting Lisbon is poised to dismiss Joao Pereira as head coach, just eight matches into his tenure. Pereira was elevated from his position as the manager of the club’s B team after Ruben Amorim departed for Manchester United. Amorim took his entire coaching staff with him and had endorsed Pereira as a worthy successor. However, the former Portugal international has managed to secure only three victories since taking over. While Sporting was leading the Primeira Liga with an unbeaten streak at the time of Amorim’s exit, they now find themselves trailing leaders Benfica by a point. Their most recent setback occurred on Sunday night when they played to a goalless draw against mid-table team Gil Vicente. Even though Pereira has only been in charge for a month, the Sporting executives have chosen to take action. As reported by A Bola (via Mirror), Sporting has terminated its relationship with Pereira. They will face their rivals Benfica on Sunday, but Pereira will not be in charge for that derby as the club has decided they can’t overlook their poor performance. The Sporting management has been dissatisfied with several errors. They are also reported to have considered the protests initiated by fans after the draw at Gil Vincente. The players have been given three days off and will come back on Boxing Day. However, Pereira will no longer serve as their manager, as Sporting is reportedly preparing to hire Rui Borges, the coach of Vitoria de Guimaraes, as their new head coach. Do you have what it takes?
