Saudi Arabia has reported that at least 12 people were killed and 309 others injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the country’s capital.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) disclosed the casualties in a statement issued on Saturday, following the attack.
According to the authority, the deceased comprised four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshis, and one national each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.
“The injured are receiving medical care in hospitals, with some in critical condition,” the authority said, adding that officials were assessing the extent of the damage caused by the attack.
Airport operations were temporarily suspended as emergency teams assessed the damage and conducted safety checks on the facilities.
The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen blamed the Houthi movement for the attack, which reportedly targeted a passenger terminal at the airport.
Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki described the incident as a violation of international humanitarian law and vowed a firm response.
“The Joint Forces Command will respond firmly to this terrorist attack in accordance with international humanitarian law,” he said.
The incident comes amid escalating hostilities between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen, with airports and other infrastructure reportedly among the targets of recent strikes.
