Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has demanded the immediate reopening of Mogadishu Cantonment mosque in Abuja.
The organisation said the closure of the mosque has deprived Muslims the right to worship in the cantonment.
MURIC made the demand in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Professor Isiaq Akintola, on Tuesday.
Akintola, who explained that the mosque was closed on October 12, 2026, said the closure violated the right to freedom of worship for the Muslim soldiers and their relatives living in and around the cantonment.
“We therefore demand the immediate reopening of the mosque or the provision of convincing and incontrovertible reason for such closure.
”The daily prayers mosque in the Nigerian Army’s Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja, has allegedly been closed since 12th October, 2026 by the army authorities within the cantonment,” the statement said.
