Johannesburg – uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) has announced the removal of Sibonelo Nomvalo as Secretary-General.
A statement attributed to the party’s national spokesperson, Sifiso Mahlangu, said: “Comrade Nomvalo has been relieved of his duties as Secretary-General”.
The statement issued under the letterhead of “Office of the President” listed the following reasons for Nomvalo’s removal:
- concerns relating to the councillor selection process, internal factionalism,
- matters concerning dual remuneration,
- delays in campaign materials,
- changes within the parliamentary caucus and parliamentary administration that were reportedly not communicated to the President, National Officials and the Presidency Collective,
- the establishment of high-level deployment committees without the knowledge of the relevant Party leadership structures.
The statement added: “Following this decision, Comrade Lindiwe Mtshali has been appointed Acting Secretary-General.”
The “Office of the President” made no mention of the party leader, 85-year-old former president Jacob Zuma, whose health has been the subject of much speculation since his hospitalisation.
However, another statement issued Friday, 23 October 2026, from the “Office of the President” said MK Party President Zuma has instructed Parliament Leader Dr. John Hlophe to reverse the decisions made by Nomvalo regarding removing the party’s whippery.
Zuma has instructed that the changes made last week be reversed.
