Dr. Michael L. Lomax, president and CEO of UNCF, is awarded the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award from the GSV. At the ASU+GSV Summit in San Diego, one of the largest gatherings of education, innovation, and impact, Dr. Michael L. Lomax, president and CEO, recognized a lifetime of transformative leadership that has shaped the future of education ( Black PR Wire ). Dr. Lomax joins a distinguished group of thinkers in education whose work has irrevocably altered the surroundings of chance and learning. Celebrities honored include Bill Milliken, the leader of Communities In Schools, Luis von Ahn, co-founder of Duolingo, Marian Wright Edelman, chairman of the Children’s Defense Fund, Geoffrey Canada, chairman of Harlem Children’s Zone, Wendy Kopp, president of Teach For America, and Gloria Milliken, the founder of Communities In Schools. Dr. Lomax is not only a hero for higher knowledge, but a force for change, according to Chris Howard, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Arizona State University. His administration has opened gates for “hundreds of thousands of students,” he says. This award recognizes a lifetime of service to justice, quality, and the power of training to transform lives, according to Dr. Lomax’s statement:” To be included among such a profound lineage of education pioneers is heartbreaking. Under Dr. Lomax’s creative authority, UNCF has raised more than$ 4 billion, enabling more than 150, 000 individuals to earn degrees and build successful careers. More than 50, 000 students take advantage of the 400+ award applications he oversees each month. Dr. Lomax has also established a strong message for HBCUs by founding the UNCF Institute for Capacity Building, which aims to help its 37 part corporations succeed as profitable, self-sustaining companies. Dr. Lomax served as the five leader of Dillard University prior to his career at UNCF, where he significantly increased student enrollment and students relationship. He founded the state’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Fulton County Arts Council, and he left an enduring legacy on Atlanta’s civic and cultural life. Prior to that, he was a political engineer in Atlanta. Dr. Lomax is still serving on various well-known board, including the Studio Museum in Harlem, the KIPP Foundation, Teach For America, Cengage Group, and Handshake. He was appointed by President George W. Bush to the government’s Board of Advisors on HBCUs and is a founding member of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
