Following the recent tensions between a part of the population and the forces of defence and security in Ziguinchor, the drivers of the railway station have taken to the stage to express their concern about the introduction of a new road transport structure in their area of activity. The President of their Association, M. Papis Touré, a pris la parole for denouncing a situation which he described as “unacceptable”, considering that it risks weakening the local transport sector. According to him, this decision could lead to a significant decrease in the number of clients, thus threatening the employment of many young people who depend on this activity to provide for themselves and their families. Touré calls on the local authorities to work together to find a lasting solution that preserves the interests of transport operators while guaranteeing the stability of the locality. He warned that without corrective measures, the question of payment of the communal taxes could be called into question by the transporters.
