Sporting Lisbon Terminates Amorim’s Successor After Only 8 Games

Joao Pereira, who took over from Ruben Amorim at the prominent Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, has been dismissed after only eight matches in charge. Sporting Lisbon announced Pereira’s departure on their X account on Thursday, saying, “A Lion forever… Thank you Joao Pereira.” Pereira was elevated from his position as the manager of Sporting Lisbon’s B team after Amorim left to manage Manchester United. Amorim brought his entire coaching staff to Old Trafford and suggested Pereira for the head coach position. However, since his promotion, Pereira, a former Portugal international, has only achieved three victories. When Amorim departed, Sporting was at the top of the league with an unbeaten streak, but they now find themselves one point behind the leaders, Benfica. Their most recent setback occurred on Sunday when they were held to a scoreless draw against mid-table team Gil Vincente. Despite Pereira having been in charge for just a month, Sporting’s management has decided to take action due to numerous mistakes and fan protests following the draw. Meanwhile, Amorim has experienced a challenging start at Old Trafford, suffering disappointing results. The latest blow for Manchester United was a surprising 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at home, which was unexpected after they had recently defeated their rivals, Manchester City, at the Etihad.
