The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has allocated N35 million in its 2025 budget proposal in response to a cyber attack that compromised its website on December 18, 153. DAILY POST remembers that the agency’s website was hacked soon after it released its crime experience and security perception survey. The bureau reported that Nigerians paid N2.23 trillion in ransom over the course of a year from May 2023 to April 2024. Aside from cybersecurity, the NBS has proposed several initiatives in its N9.85 billion budget, including N500 million for the Labour Force Survey, N80 million for producing the Consumer Price Index, and N60 million for quarterly GDP updates. Other budget items include N55 million for the National Agricultural Sample Survey, N50 million for monitoring the 8-Point Agenda, and N45 million for enhancing service delivery capabilities. Additionally, the budget includes N15 million for demographic statistics and N9 million for the Annual Abstract of Statistics.
