Governor Adeleke orders release of 53 inmates 

Governor Ademola Adeleke has granted pardons and released 53 individuals who were serving various sentences in the Nigerian Correctional Service. According to a statement from Olawale Rasheed, the Governor’s spokesperson, this decision aligns with the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy. A commutation letter dated December 24, 2024, which has been acknowledged by the appropriate prison authorities, stated that the inmates were either sentenced to various prison terms or condemned to death and have each completed at least 10 years in custody. “Therefore, I, Senator Ademola Jackson Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, Nigeria, exercising the powers granted to me by subsection (i) of section 212 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), am pleased to offer my grace and mercy to these inmates. It is my intention to commute the death sentences, life sentences, and various terms of imprisonment as specified in the attached schedule.”
