According to Completesports, Team Delta has been declared the overall champion of the 2024 National Sports Festival. Nigeria’s president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, announced the closure of the festival on Thursday at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena. Delta State retained their championship by securing 122 gold, 95 silver, and 105 bronze medals. Onoriode Oborevwori, the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, attributed the victory to state governor Sheriff Oborevwori in honor of his two-year anniversary in office, stating, “This win is for His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whose steadfast dedication to empowering youth and promoting sports through the MORE Agenda has led us to our current achievements, stated, “While a few medal events are still ongoing, our substantial lead assures that Delta is once again in first place.” Additionally, in the NSF 2024 event, Ogun triumphed over Lagos to secure the Men’s Handball Gold. Oborevwori commended the athletes, coaches, and the entire Team Delta for their commitment, diligence, and dedication. He noted that this achievement results from wise investments and effective leadership. He emphasized, “This is more than just medals; it’s about creating opportunities and fostering hope.” The MORE Agenda has created opportunities for our young people to excel in sports, and this victory demonstrates the potential that arises when leadership is coupled with action. He expressed his gratitude towards the technical team, administrators, and support personnel for their efforts, acknowledging their crucial contribution to Delta’s prominence in national sports. Additionally, he remarked, “As we anticipate the championship trophy at the closing ceremony, we approach it with thankfulness, pride, and a commitment to continue nurturing champions.” The upcoming National Sports Festival will take place in Enugu.
