Matthew Bellas, Olney Rabbi Mourned Following Tragic Death 

Rabbi Matthew Bellas, a popular Olney, MD priest who is the Lower School Principal at Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, has died.
Bellas passed away on December 30th, according to several gift articles that were shared on social media shortly after his passing.
The Canadian-American priest, who actually hails from Vancouver, British Columbia, was remembered for making a huge difference in the lives of his pupils and congregation.
The Congregation Har Shalomm remembered Bellas in a blog, posting:” I was deeply saddened, as I know you were, to get information of the departure of Rabbi Matthew Bellas z “l. He was a charismatic, immensely talented Jewish trainer who cared deeply for his students, teachers, and the entire CESJDS society,”
Another article, from Hazzan Asa Fradkin of the Beth El Bethesda church, even read:” Condolences to the family of Rabbi Matthew Bellas. He was a kind, gentle man who worked alongside Sarah Fradkin as well as her manager and coworker throughout our son’s six years at JDS Lower School. May his recollection endlessly get for a gift,”

Rabbi Matthew Bellas grew up in Vancouver, raised in a traditional Jewish home. Bellas was asked to become a pastor at the age of 8. After his learning, receiving a B. He studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America (JTSA ) in 2004 for his Rabbinic Ordination and earned both an M.A. in Education.
He previously served as the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School’s director while moving to Rockville, Maryland, in 2014. Rabbi Bellas lives in Olney with his family Oksana and babies, Yaakov, Maya and Aliza.
