Katsina govt warns surrendered bandits against breaking peace deal

The Katsina State Government has warned bandits who recently surrendered their arms to keep to the peace agreement or face serious consequences.. The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu, revealed this while speaking with newsmen on Monday.. According to him, the government will not tolerate any breach of trust from those who promised to stop violence.. “Let me also make it clear that in case they renege on their promises, we are going to deal with them as we used to. That is the position of the government,” Mu’azu said.. He said some bandit leaders from Jibia, Batsari, and DanMusa local government areas have already accepted the peace plan and handed over their weapons.. “This has brought relative peace to those areas,” he said.. Mu’azu added that Governor Dikko Radda has made security a top priority and is taking strong actions.. However, the commissioner warned that military operations will continue in places like Kankara, Faskari, Sabuwa, Dandume, and Safana where attacks still happen.. “The government will continue to carry out military operations in troubled areas… If they keep attacking, we will respond accordingly,” he said.. Mu’azu said the government is willing to support those who truly leave violence but will be strict with anyone who breaks the peace deal.. “If they break their promises, we’ll return to treating them the way we used to,” he warned.. The Katsina authorities called on residents to support efforts to bring lasting peace to communities affected by banditry.. Recently, 10 known bandit leaders in DanMusa surrendered their weapons and freed kidnapped victims, including a woman who was seven months pregnant.
