24-Hour Economy Already Exists; It’s Not New – Asamoah Gyan On NDC’s Policy

Asamoah Gyan, a former Georgia basketball player, has criticized the National Democratic Congress ‘ proposed 24-hour economy policy as being unoriginal. Gyan pointed out that some necessary services in Ghana, like as police stations, hospitals, and gas stations, now operate round the clock.
Speaking during an Instagram Live conference on January 2, 2025, Gyan said,” It now exists. Authorities stations, hospitals, and filling stations currently operate on a 24-hour base. Therefore, if the government says ‘ 24-hour economy,’ they may state that they will improve it. It’s hardly a new plan”.
Instead of introducing the plan as something novel, Gyan urged the newly-elected federal to concentrate on improving these already-existing 24-hour procedures. He urged the NDC to clearly state their intentions and ensure that the plan actually benefits the Ghanaian people by highlighting the value of clarity and substantial improvements.
The NDC’s campaign’s main foundation was the 24-hour business plan, which significantly contributed to their return to power. Followers of the plan argue that it aims to boost economic engagement, create jobs, and develop business opportunities, especially within the informal sector. Gyan’s criticism, but, highlights the need for more precise details and a focus on important reforms rather than speech.
Gyan, who was once a part of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s battle group, has since distanced himself from partisan politics and focuses on generosity and youngsters development.
Gyan’s notes serve as a reminder that while the idea of a 24-hour market is hardly novel, there is still much work to be done to enhance and expand its application for the benefit of all citizens.
