​Self-sufficiency in rice: an investment of nearly 800 million FCFA in progress to develop 3 400 hectares in Kolda and Sédhiou 

  As part of its strategy for self-sufficiency in rice, the State of Senegal has launched an ambitious programme for the development and exploitation of 3 400 hectares in the regions of Kolda and Sédhiou. An investment of nearly 800 million FCFA, cofinanced by the Banque Islamique de Développement, supports this initiative with a strong agricultural impact. This structuring project is part of the Project for the Development of the Rice Value Chain (PDCVR), which aims to strengthen the national rice production capacity in a sustainable way. During a mission to supervise the works on Monday 23 June in the region of Kolda, the coordinator of the PDCVR, Dr Wally Diouf, highlighted the main lines of this intervention. The ambitious project to carry out water management works to enable rice producers to cultivate in any season, regardless of climatic conditions “, he explained. It is not a question of a single market. Among the works planned are: water-supply works to regulate the waters at the level of the valley, solar boreholes to ensure irrigation in the event of a rainfall break or early wintering, the construction of hazardous thresholds, the rehabilitation of existing infrastructures. To these are added the operations of planing and lissage des parcelles.
