Diaobé-Kabendou: the discovery of the body of a baby in a well, the trail of a privileged honor crime

Kewoulo knows a little more about the family drama and a possible crime of honour that affects the town of Diaobé-Kabendou, in the southeast of Senegal. The lifeless body of an infant was found, in the day of Monday 23 June 2025, floating in a well located in the district of Kabendou. The mother of the child, Souadou Sall, was placed in custody by the gendarmerie, while the investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances of this tragic death. According to information obtained by Kewoulo, Souadou Sall is married to a man currently in immigration in Spain. The couple already had two children before her husband left the country. It was during his absence that the young woman contracted a new pregnancy, while she was still living in her husband’s family home. A situation which has caused a wave of shock within the family, especially in a context where traditions and social norms heavily weigh on marital relations. Faced with what she called the “grossesse de la honte”, the in-laws had demanded that Souadou leave the conjugal domicile to return to his own mother, in the district of Kabendou, at the time of the birth.
