The Faculté de médecine, de pharmacie et d’odonto-stomatologie de l’Ucad has been designated regional institution for the operationalisation of the health programme of the UEMOA. In the framework of the implementation of the Regional Health Training and Research Centre (Pfore-Santé) of the UEMOA, the Faculté de médecine, de pharmacie et d’odonto-stomatologie (Fmpo) of the Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (Ucad) has been officially designated by the experts of the Member States of the Union as the institution responsible for the operationalization of this strategic programme. The same source informs that the Pfore-Santé aims to strengthen training, research and innovation in the fields of public health, medicine, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, while promoting the integrated approach “One Health”, which associates human, animal and environmental health. L’Ucad stresses that the Fmpo has been brilliantly represented throughout the process by two academic figures. This includes Prof. Babacar Faye, head of the parasitology and medical mycology service and also Director of the African Centre of Excellence Agir “Santé, environnement & Sciences sociales” and Prof. Mbathio Diop, research teacher in the public health service of the Department of Odontology, also designated as rapporteur at the coordination meeting of the Pfore-Santé. This designation enables the FMPO to coordinate the regional activities of the Ministry of Health; to facilitate scientific and academic cooperation between the eight Member States; to strengthen applied research and employability in the health sectors; to contribute to the health sovereignty of the region in the fields of training, innovation and health care. “The choice of UCAD reflects the recognition of a proven capacity to embody excellence, scientific rigor and commitment to public health in West Africa”, reads the communiqué.
