Shola Abdulraheem and Yahaya Ibrahim from Kwara United have been called up to join the Flying Eagles team for the upcoming U-20 WAFU B tournament in Ghana. Completesports has confirmed their invitation. According to a trustworthy source from the club, “Shola Abdulraheem and Yahaya Ibrahim have indeed been called up to join the Flying Eagles squad.” The source also mentioned, “They are slated to report to the Flying Eagles camp next week on Monday.” On the previous Saturday, Abdulraheem and Ibrahim contributed to Kwara United achieving their inaugural President Federation Cup title, winning against up-and-coming team Abakaliki FC through a penalty shootout. The match took place at Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, with Kwara United winning the shootout 23-22 after the regular time ended in a 0-0 draw. As a result of this victory, Kwara United will represent Nigeria in the upcoming CAF Confederations Cup. The club from Ilorin will be participating in the Confederations Cup for the third time. During their initial entry in 2007, they were eliminated in the group stages, and in their subsequent participation, they were knocked out in the second round. Additionally, it is reported that Kwara United players received 5 million each and plots of land as rewards for their success in the Federation Cup. They only competed once in the now-defunct CAF in 1999, achieving their best result by reaching the quarter-finals. In preparation for the U-20 WAFU B tournament taking place from July 10 to 23, the Flying Eagles have resumed training in Abuja. This tournament is a part of their preparation for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, which will be held from September 27 to October 19. The Flying Eagles are in Group A, where they will face the host nation Ghana and Benin Republic. At the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, the Flying Eagles finished third after winning a penalty shootout against the host team. The Flying Eagles hope for a better performance in Chile following a disappointing outcome in 1987. The Flying Eagles are set to return to Chile for the U-20 World Cup for the second time. In the 1987 tournament, they exited at the group stage after losing to Brazil and Italy, and drawing with Canada. They began their Group B journey with a disappointing 4-0 loss against Brazil and later conceded a last-minute goal, resulting in a 2-2 draw with Canada. In their final group match against Italy, they required a win but unfortunately lost 2-0. – By James Agberebi
