Ekurhuleni SAPS district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole has welcomed the conviction of rapist Tshepo Monamane, who received a sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment for rape on February 19.

The rapist was convicted of raping a seven-year-old girl.

“On July 8, 2021, at about 10:00, a 24-year-old complainant was with her mother and her seven-year-old daughter. The complainant’s mother asked the granddaughter to go home with her.

“At around 14:00, the complainant asked her mother where her daughter was, and she said she last saw her playing at the neighbour’s house.”

Later, they found the girl raped, but she could describe the suspect. The case was registered at Devon SAPS.

“The investigating officer Detective Sergeant Lephoto from the Springs Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit ensured the accused stood trial before Nigel Magistrate’s Court on a charge of rape. I encourage other detectives to put more effort, especially in gender-based violence cases,” he said.
