Abia discovers 50 future stars for Nigerian League, Super EaglesĀ 

The organising committee for the Abia Soccer Fest, ASF, has announced it has discovered fifty young talents across the State from the recently completed Phase One of grassroots football tournament in the State.

Speaking at a press conference in Umuahia, Abia State Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, said the joint initiative wasĀ  handled by his Ministry andĀ  the Ministry of Youth andĀ  Sports Development.

He said that the First Phase covered all 771 autonomous communities in the 17 LGAs of the State and produced champions from the various wards, culminating in a total of 166 matches played across the State, with prizes presented to winners.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, LOC,Ā  John Udeagbala, represented by the Vice Chairman, Captain Eric Asomugha, said the grassroots tournament had already identified more than 50Ā  young football starsĀ  from a pool of 3,000 players across the State, with moreĀ  discoveriesĀ  expected during the Second Phase of the State Finals.

He said that the state government was partnering the Nigerian football League Clubs and reputable football scouting agencies to ensure that the talents discovered are nurtured and channelled into professional paths, adding that they areĀ  futureĀ  stars for the Super Eagles.

Udeagbala disclosed that the phase two which is the State Finals isĀ  scheduled to begin in late January or early February 2026.

It will feature the 17 LGA champions who will compete across four designated zones of Umuahia, Aba, Ohafia, and Arochukwu and culminate in a grand finale at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
