According to a dairy specialist, Nigerians primarily use creamers instead of milk.

Olufemi Johnson, the Operations Director of Manufacturing Industry Canada, stated in an interview with Channels Television on Thursday that what is sold as milk in Nigeria is actually creamers. He emphasized the struggles of Nigeria’s dairy sector, attributing its stagnation to a lack of investment. According to Johnson, Nigeria’s dairy industry is severely lacking, noting that many children in the country do not have access to milk or milk protein. We did not develop with the help of milk protein. In Nigeria, what we refer to as milk is actually creamers. They do not meet the criteria to be referred to as milk. “There exists an international standard defining what constitutes milk.” “You don’t milk dairy directly; instead, you bottle it,” he remarked. Specialists in the field have expressed concern over the prevalence of substandard milk in Nigeria. Remember that in June 2024, the federal government introduced the National Dairy Policy for 2023-2028 to promote development in the industry.
