Renowned Nigerian actor Yemi Solade has stated that he is older than his fellow actor Pete Edochie in the film industry. This assertion was made in a controversial social media video where he discussed his acting journey. He dismissed claims that another part of the Nigerian movie scene initiated Nollywood, arguing that the delayed documentation by the Yoruba film industry doesn’t justify others taking credit. Solade went on to explain, “I am senior to Pete Edochie; even though he is older than me, I began acting before him. I started my acting career in 1977 at the age of 17, making me Nigeria’s youngest actor.” I have spent 48 years in the acting profession and I am still going strong. Ade Ajiboye, also known as ‘Big Abass’, holds the distinction of being the first Nigerian to produce a home video. They asserted that they initiated Nollywood due to their connection with the media, while the Yoruba segment was merely performing without any records.
