The Adamawa State Government has won a suit that would have cost it $35 million.
The government saved the state from paying $35,618,054.61 to Ned Munir Nwoko, who had sued for the amount at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja.
Details of the case, provided on Wednesday by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, indicated that, in a default judgment, the High Court granted the reliefs sought by the plaintiff and further issued an Order Nisi in garnishee proceedings against all banks in Nigeria, mandating them to attach funds belonging to the Adamawa State Government until the judgment sum was fully paid.
“Upon becoming aware of the judgment, the Adamawa State Government promptly appealed to the Court of Appeal against the garnishee order and the ruling refusing a stay of execution,” Wunosikou explained.
According to him, “On 2nd December 2025, the Court of Appeal heard the appeals and reserved judgments. Subsequently, on 10th February 2026, the Court of Appeal delivered judgment in all three appeals, allowing them in favour of the Adamawa State Government.”
Wonosikou explained the outcome, saying, “The effect of the success of the Adamawa State Government at the Court of Appeal is that the State has been saved from paying the plaintiff the sum of $35,618,054.61, or its naira equivalent,” Wonosikou explained.
