The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has announced the establishment of a Special Representatives Network in key foreign capitals.
The party disclosed this in a press statement issued in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the new structure, known as the ADC Special Representatives Network, is part of a broader plan to build stronger ties with international stakeholders and institutions that support democratic governance.
It added that the initiative is coming in response to what the party described as a growing pattern of undemocratic practices and attacks on opposition members and leaders since July 2025, including attempts to destabilize opposition parties and restrict democratic participation.
āThe Special Representatives Network is designed to create structured channels of communication between the ADC and influential international stakeholders, particularly in countries and institutions that prioritise democracy, human rights, and the rule of law,ā the statement said.
ADC said it would appoint credible representatives as envoys in strategically selected global capitals who will serve as official points of contact between the party and international actors.
āThese representatives will serve as official points of contact between the ADC and international actors including foreign governments, parliamentary committees, international media organisations, democracy support institutions, and Nigerian diaspora communities,ā the party stated.
According to the party, the envoys will also provide regular briefings on Nigeriaās political environment, including issues related to human rights, democratic governance, electoral integrity and alleged repression of opposition actors.
āThrough these engagements, the representatives will provide regular briefings on key issues relating to Nigeriaās political environment, including political developments in the country, human rights concerns, democratic governance, electoral integrity, and allegations of repression against opposition actors,ā the statement added.
ADC further noted that the initiative aims to ensure that international partners receive balanced and credible information about Nigeriaās political climate.
āThe primary objective of the initiative is to ensure that international partners and democratic institutions receive balanced and credible information about Nigeriaās political environment, rather than relying solely on official government narratives,ā the party said.
The party identified several cities for its strategic international engagement, including Washington DC, London, Brussels, Berlin, Ottawa, Paris, Pretoria, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Accra, Geneva and New York.
As part of the programme, the party also announced plans to establish a National Documentation Initiative to systematically collect and document incidents affecting political participation across Nigeria.
Under the initiative, state party structures will gather information on incidents such as threats, harassment, violent attacks, arbitrary arrests and disruptions of political activities.
ADC said the programme represents a strategic step toward strengthening its international presence and reinforcing its commitment to democratic governance and political accountability.
āBy institutionalizing these channels of engagement, the party seeks to strengthen its credibility as a responsible democratic actor while also reinforcing its position as a viable governing alternative committed to democratic norms and constitutional governance,ā the statement added.
