The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has announced the defection of former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, into its ranks.
In a statement signed by its spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described Kwankwaso’s move as a reflection of growing public sentiment that Nigeria requires leadership capable of addressing citizens’ daily challenges and taking responsibility for national development.
The ADC noted that the former governor’s governance experience, grassroots appeal, and unifying influence would strengthen its efforts toward rebuilding the country.
As part of the development, Kwankwaso reportedly urged members of his political movement and supporters nationwide to join the ADC, further boosting the party’s expanding coalition.
The event was attended by key figures within the party, including National Chairman David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, alongside members of the National Working Committee.
Also present were prominent presidential hopefuls such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi.
Other notable attendees included Liyel Imoke and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal.
The ADC said the turnout of party leaders at the event underscores its unity, focus, and growing political momentum ahead of future elections.
According to Abdullahi: “Senator Kwankwaso’s decision speaks to what many Nigerians already feel: that the country needs leadership that understands the challenges people face every day and is ready to take responsibility for fixing them.
“His experience in governance, his strong grassroots connection, and his ability to bring people together make him a valuable part of this collective effort to rebuild Nigeria.
“As part of this move, he has also encouraged members of his political movement and supporters across the country to join the ADC, adding strength to this growing coalition for change.”
