The pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has urged both the Senate and the Attorney-General of the Federation to verify the allegations made by Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio. In a statement released on Thursday, the organization stated that it is essential to determine the truth in order to clarify the situation. Afenifere highlighted that revealing the truth is crucial for fairness and justice, which will help restore Nigeria’s reputation internationally, especially as various media and foreign legislatures are monitoring the issue. It is noted that Senator Natasha has accused the Senate President of sexual harassment. The Senate later enacted a six-month suspension for her due to a breach of its regulations. After her suspension ended, Natasha returned to the Senate to continue her legislative responsibilities. Afenifere had previously called for the truth to be uncovered regarding the situation. Now that she is back, the pan-Yoruba group insists that the Attorney General of the Federation, the Senate, and the nation’s security bodies must thoroughly investigate the matter to reveal the actual facts. “At Afenifere, we responded with mixed emotions to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s decision to lift the six-month suspension on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for a confirmed violation of its rules. For us, her reinstatement does not imply that we should dismiss her allegations without seeking judicial clarification,” the group expressed.
