Duduza – After a win at the Nomdayi Festive Games and a second-place finish in the Diskie Nine-Nine tournament, the Afro XI was compelled to share its spoils with their community.
The club recently donated 50 pairs of school shoes.
“We want to bridge the gap between our team and the community. To achieve this, we embarked on a school shoe drive, donating essential footwear to underprivileged learners,” explained club chairperson Tinini Mokotong.
They did this with the help of Phoenix and Tupapele Solutions.
“Our first stop was Edalinceba Primary School, where we received a warm welcome from the staff and the student governing body members.
“Next, we visited Tandi Sibeko Secondary School, where the representative expressed gratitude for choosing their school. He assured us that the students would take good care of the donated shoes,” he added.
In addition to the school shoe drive, they donated three soccer kits to teams from Alrapark, Duduza and Tsakani.
Two senior players from Afro XI motivated the young Jealous Down athletes, who appreciated the gift.
Mokotong said he was overjoyed with the success of the day, thanking all the stakeholders, senior players, the team manager, his family and supporters for their contributions.
“This initiative is not a once-off. We plan to continue giving back to the community. We look forward to our next project – hopefully scheduled for June or July.
“We thank the Diskie Nine-Nine tournament organisers for their support and for joining us on our school shoe drive. Your presence served as a testament to our commitment to using our prize winnings to positively impact the community,” he said.
