Under the leadership of its new Director-General, Tidiane Ndiaye, Air Sénégal embarked on a strategic reform aimed at rationalising its workforce and establishing greater equity among its navigating personnel. One of the key measures of this restructuring concerns the alignment of remuneration between Senegalese and expatriate pilots. Until now, the latter were paid twice as much as their local colleagues, while enjoying benefits such as housing and a more favourable work schedule (fifteen days’ rest every six weeks). This disparity has now been corrected in order to guarantee a fair recognition of the competences and responsibilities of all the pilots. In the context of this reform, Air Sénégal has trained and certified nine national pilots, including five flight commanders, for the conduct of the Airbus A330. Until now, only foreign pilots were authorised to fly these long-haul aircraft. In addition, two Senegalese flight commanders have obtained the qualification of instructor on this type of aircraft, thus strengthening the local expertise within the company. Air Sénégal also carried out a rationalisation of its workforce, which was considered excessive.
