The biological daughter of the late Maame Akua Donkor has opened up about the shocking manner in which her family misused the financial donations they received following her mother’s passing.
In a candid interview with Captain Smart, she expressed her deep disappointment over how funds meant to support the funeral arrangements were diverted without her knowledge.
Recounting her ordeal, she explained that at the time of her mother’s passing, she was in Kumasi, actively planning to commemorate her mother’s one-week memorial service. While in the midst of these preparations, she received a call from her cousin, who informed her that the family needed money to organise the event.
Trusting that the family was handling matters transparently, she took the request seriously and began making plans to raise the needed funds.
However, to her utter shock, she later discovered that someone had already made a substantial donation of GHC100,000 to support the family. What pained her the most was that the family had deliberately kept this information from her, making it seem as though they had no financial support and needed her contribution.
Determined to get to the bottom of the matter, she called her cousin back to inquire about the donation. To her surprise, he confirmed that the money had indeed been received but claimed that it had been used to renovate the family house. According to him, the family saw it as an opportunity to repair broken structures and improve the condition of the house instead of focusing solely on the funeral expenses.
The revelation left her feeling betrayed and disheartened, as she believed the funds were meant to honour her late mother’s memory and not for unrelated expenses.
