The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced that he has received a needs assessment report from the residents of Ikot Abasi federal constituency as part of the preparations for the 2026 budget. He made this statement during an empowerment program and town hall meeting with the constituents on Friday. Eno explained that the aim of the document is to include the community’s requests and urgent needs in the budget. He emphasized, “The purpose of submitting this document is to encourage public participation in governance and to ensure that when the government is planning the 2026 budget, the citizens’ needs can be incorporated. We want everyone to be involved and take pride in this government.” What is even more crucial is that we are steadily advancing, connecting Akwa Ibom to the center, ensuring it has a place, receives its entitlements, and is recognized. The governor highlighted the importance of the state advancing in order to experience the complete benefits from the Federal Government. Regarding the grants provided to farmers, traders, and micro, small, and medium enterprises, Eno stated that he has made sure that qualified individuals from Akwa Ibom can access these benefits without the need for connections to influential figures. “We are facilitating opportunities for the children of ordinary people, who lack a godfather or godmother, to apply through the portal, be screened, and receive grants.” “We are circulating this not just among a specific party or group, but as a right for all Akwa Ibomites,” he remarked. He also mentioned that the names of the recipients, their occupations, contact numbers, and the sums they received are all included in the official event booklet to showcase the government’s commitment to transparency and fairness. The Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, set the tone for the session, noting that the gathering aimed to connect the government more closely with the citizens and address their concerns, which will contribute to the 2026 budget planning. The chairman of Ikot Abasi LGA, Hon., led the chairmen of the three local government areas within the federal constituency to deliver a welcoming speech. Ime Williamson Essien characterized Governor Eno as a forward-thinking leader, someone who keeps his promises, and an admirer of excellence. He noted that Eno would be remembered for his efforts to clarify and streamline leadership during his tenure.
