Alleged defamation: Otti’s aide files N500m suit against opposition member

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Abia State, Mr. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, has sued a member of the opposition, Mr. Chinonye Mba for  allegedly defaming him through a post on his Facebook page.

In the lawsuit filed before Justice K.C.J. Okereke of Abia State High Court, Ohafia Division, sitting in Abiriba, the Chief Press Secretary is demanding N500 million from Chinonye Mba, as damage.

According to the suit No. HOH/90/2025, the suit arose over a Facebook publication allegedly made by the defendant on 26th October, 2025 which had the heading:

“How Governor Alex Otti’s CPS Plotted to Have Me Incarcerated.”

According to the claimant, the publication was posted on the defendant’s Facebook page and circulated to  the defendant’s friends, followers, and the general public.

The claimant said that the contents of the said publication were false, malicious, defamatory and were capable of injuring his character, reputation, and public standing.

Apart from the demand of N500 million damage, the Chief Press Secretary is also praying the Court to grant an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendant from further publishing or circulating the alleged defamatory statements, among others.

However, the defendant, Chinonye Mba who is away from Abia State, made a  recent post on his Facebook page saying:

“My wife has been released and safely home. Thanks to everyone who helped to facilitate this.”
