In response to the recent declarations of the magistrate Ousmane Chimère Diouf on the sidelines of the AG of the Union of Magistrates of Senegal (UMS), the opposition MP Amadou Ba reacted strongly. Through his Facebook page, the deputy has described the work as “counter-productive and totally inoperative”. MEP Amadou Ba has stressed the importance of respecting the separation of powers. According to him, “the dialogue between the institutions must be conducted with respect for the principles of the separation of powers and the exercise by each power of the fullness of its constitutional powers”. It is thus recalled that each institution, be it the National Assembly or the judiciary, must act within the limits of its powers without encroaching on those of the others. It should be recalled that the proposals of the magistrate Ousmane Chimère Diouf had aroused a controversy after he had publicly described certain legislative initiatives as “populist”. These declarations had been perceived as a direct criticism of the work of the deputies, opening a debate on the boundaries between the judiciary and the legislature. What’s the matter?
