An aide to Putin stated that the UK is not suitable to act as a mediator in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Russia has announced that it does not recognize the United Kingdom as a suitable mediator in the Ukrainian conflict, accusing it of showing bias. Dmitry Peskov, press secretary for President Vladimir Putin, emphasized that Russia sees the UK as non-neutral because of its partial support. He stated, “To mediate effectively, one must be impartial to all involved parties. Given its clear alignment, London is unqualified to take on such a role,” as reported by Anadolu Agency. Peskov also mentioned that the UK has never actively sought to act as a mediator. Additionally, he discussed the ceasefire initiated by Russia during Easter and another planned for the upcoming three-day holiday, aimed at gauging Kyiv’s willingness to work towards lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine. Furthermore, Peskov indicated he had no information on reports about U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s expected visit to Russia on May 9, coinciding with Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, which honor the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945.
