Johannesburg – The African National Congress (ANC) has called on law enforcement agencies to probe the authenticity of a viral video that depicts Deputy Mayor of Bitou Municipality Nokuzola ā€œNoksiā€ Kolwapi, discharging a firearm in public.

The video shows the deputy mayor firing a handheld gun into the air in a street with people walking around during a celebration, (Mgidi) held for her sons.

The ANC in Victor Molosi Region, which said it notes the video with serious concern, added that it, ā€œviews any alleged conduct involving the discharge of a firearm in a public or private setting with the utmost seriousness, particularly when it involves public representatives who are expected to uphold the law and act responsibly at all times.

ā€œIn this regard, the ANC calls on relevant law enforcement agencies to urgently conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the authenticity of the video and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

ā€œThe law must take its course without fear or favour.ā€

The ANC reiterated its commitment to the rule of law, public safety, and responsible leadership.

ā€œShould the allegations be substantiated, appropriate action must be taken in line with the law and the organisation’s constitutional and disciplinary processes.
