Arcelor Mittal case: Three dignitaries of the old regime summoned as witnesses

The Arcelor Mittal affair is taking a new turn. The dean of the judges of the premier cabinet d’instruction du tribunal hors classe de Dakar has addressed three summonses to former dignitaries of the previous regime, cited as witnesses in this dossier. The journal Libération, which published the information on Monday, recalled that a judicial information had been opened by the Dakar prosecutor’s office for “association of criminals, corruption, recel, money laundering, fraud and complicity”. Following a complaint with constitution of civil party lodged by the State of Senegal, the proceedings were brought on behalf of Arcelor Mittal Holdings AG (formerly Mittal Steel Holdings AG), Arcelor Mittal, Arcelor Mittal Limited, Arcelor Mittal Holland II BV, Arcelor Mittal Mining Sénégal SA and Arcelor Mittal Infrastructures Sénégal SA. At the heart of this procedure is the transaction agreement concluded on 30 May 2014 between the State of Senegal and Arcelor Mittal. When the case had broken out, the DIC had been charged with delivering summonses to the representatives of Arcelor Mittal, but the latter had disappeared.
