A group under the auspices of the Arewa Joint Initiative for Peace has called on all stakeholders, political leaders, community organizations, and citizens to unite in the pursuit of a peaceful and prosperous Northern Nigeria.
Addressing newsmen in Kaduna on Wednesday, the spokesman of the group, Amb. Aminu Abbas Arabi, enjoined all northerners to rally around their leaders who are dedicated to the greater good and work together to build a future free from the shackles of violence and division.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to be vigilant against the machinations of political merchants such as the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), saying that their agenda is not one of progress or development but a self-serving pursuit that threatens to derail the hard-won gains in security and stability that the country has achieved.
According to him, “Their rhetoric is not only harmful but also distracts from the critical issues facing our region. Instead of fostering dialogue and constructive criticism, they have chosen to sow division and discord.”
The group called on the CNG to reflect on its actions and reconsider its alignment with those who seek to perpetuate chaos.
Arabi alleged that the group has shown “a troubling propensity for indecision” and has chosen to align itself with “the forces of destruction rather than the forces of progress,” saying that their recent statements are not merely misguided but “a disservice to the very people they purport to represent.”
The spokesman stated, “By engaging in a campaign of misinformation and character assassination against Minister Matawalle, the CNG reveals its true nature: a political entity more concerned with self-serving agendas than the welfare of the Northern populace.”
He explained that the CNG’s actions can only be described as “a political witch hunt, driven by ulterior motives that have no place in a democratic society,” saying that it is disheartening to witness a group that claims to represent the interests of the North engage in such “detrimental behaviour.”
Arabi said, “The Arewa Joint Initiative for Peace is firmly behind Minister Mohammed Bello Matawalle and his ongoing efforts to combat insecurity and promote peace in Northern Nigeria. We reject the divisive tactics employed by the CNG and other organizations that seek to undermine our collective progress.”
In the face of adversity, he explained that it is imperative to stand resolute in support of leaders committed to the security and well-being of the region, saying that Mohammed Bello Matawalle has proven himself to be an unwavering advocate for peace and security in Nigeria, particularly in the Northern states beleaguered by insecurity and violence.
