Nigerian players Tolu Arokodare and Raphael Onyedika have received nominations for the esteemed Ebony Shoe award, which honors the best African player or a player of African descent in the Belgian Pro League. Arokodare has been standout this season with KRC Genk, scoring 20 goals and providing 5 assists in 35 league matches. Meanwhile, Onyedika has been a key player for Club Brugge, contributing to the team’s advancement to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The ex-FC Midtylland midfielder has contributed two goals and two assists in 47 matches for Brugge, the current title holders, during this season. Other nominees for the award include Promise David, a Nigerian-born international player for Canada with Union Saint-Gilloise, Democratic Republic of Congo’s Noah Sadki, and Morocco’s Zakaria El Ouahdi. Daniel Amokachi, a former Super Eagles striker, was the first recipient of the award in 1992. Other Nigerian winners include Victor Ikpeba, Godwin Okpara, Celestine Babayaro, and Paul Onuachu. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Brussels on Monday, May 12.
