Denzel Murefu is an amapiano DJ and producer who wants to gain recognition locally and internationally through his soulful songs.

Denzel Murefu (20) is a DJ and music producer who grew up in a music-orientated family with his mom who loved listening to the radio.

On stage, he is known as Coronova and is an energetic music creator.

He said his family dedicated Sundays to outside listening sessions where his family exchanged work to sing along to R’n’B and Jazz music.

His love for music often got him into trouble at school, as he would use desks and bins as beat makers.
In 2014, he discovered software, called Virtual DJ, on his uncle’s computer and used it to sharpen his music-mixing skills.

“I did this until my parents bought me my laptop. In the same year, I discovered software called FL Studio. I used it for a short period because of a lack of understanding of how the app works,” explained Denzel.

“In 2021, I met Subzero J and Soulistic L, my classmates. They knew how to navigate FL Studio and helped me understand it.”

After understanding the app he has been making music ever since.

A show on SABC 1 called 1s and 2s motivated Denzel to work hard and exposed him to artists who became successful through music.

“I always tell myself I want to become a successful DJ and producer. I am now an amapiano artist and look up to artists such as Kelvin Momo and Kabza de Small because they are the reason I make soulful music,” he said.

He recently produced a song called Phezulu featuring Aileee and Lerato featuring Mjamerow and Shimmy Kay.
He is working on an EP called Lerato, which will consist of six tracks.

“The EP with soulful and groovy vibes will be my first project released on digital platforms. The EP will be released on April 25.

“My vision is to be recognised locally and internationally so I can play in big places like Ibiza (an archipelago of Spain on the Mediterranean Sea).

“I want to show people that anything is possible when you put in the effort and dedication to your craft,” he added.

“My music inspires people not to give up on their dreams. It has helped me grow mentally.”.
