Faced with the mounting criticism and targeted attacks on the judiciary, the Union des magistrats sénégalais (UMS) is finally coming out of its reserve. The Executive Bureau of the organisation decided to go on the offensive by adopting a strategy of structured and concerted response, thus marking a turning point in the public defence of the magistracy. According to a note published on Friday 14 November 2025, the UN has engaged in a joint approach with the judicial hierarchy in order to define the best communication strategy in a climate that has become particularly sensitive. Proof of this new position: after having officially seized the President of the Republic, the Executive Bureau announces its participation in the programme “Point de vue” on RTS1, this Sunday 16 November at 2 p.m. A rare media release, intended to respond directly to the interpellations and accusations that inflame public opinion. In its message, the UN also calls on the magistrates to strengthen their ranks and consolidate their solidarity, recalling that internal cohesion is indispensable to protect the judiciary and the fundamental values it embodies. This pronouncement is a key moment in the battle of image and legitimacy that is being waged today by the Senegalese justice system.
