After being discovered dying along the North Saskatchewan River in western Edmonton last year, the woman’s partner has been charged with murder. Ashley Burke, 43, was found deceased along the river south of the Quesnell Bridge near Whitemud Park, at about 4: 45 p. m. on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024. At the time of her suicide, Burke was living in Edmonton, but authorities said she had ties to Pine Grove. She was identified as a homicide victim by an autopsy on Thursday, January 2, but officers are not yet releasing her cause of death for investigational purposes. On Friday, Daniel Boothman, 31, was arrested and charged with second-degree crime in connection with Burke’s suicide. Boothman and Burke were known to one another, police said, adding Burke’s suicide is considered an intimate partner crime.

NPFL clubs jostle for Meyiwa’s signature
Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi is set to leave Nigeria Premier Football League side, Bendel Insurance, for a move elsewhere. According to reports, Meyiwa is understood to be attracting interest from an unnamed Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, club.
The defender was one of the standout performers for Bendel Insurance in the first stanza. He made 15 appearances and registered one goal in this campaign.
He also played a crucial role in Bendel Insurance’s 2023 Federation Cup triumph. The defender hasalso been invited to the Super Eagles B team in the past.
NPFL: Enyimba set target for season after difficult spell
Enyimba team manager Okey Nwabeke has revealed the team’s target following their recent struggles in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL. Nwabeke says that a top-three finish is the minimum expectation from the team in this campaign.
The nine-time NPFL champions are without a win in seven matches in the league. Enyimba currently occupies ninth position on the NPFL table with 24 points. “The Chairman, Nwankwo Kanu, has made it clear: ‘It’s either you win the league title or secure a continental ticket—nothing less,” Okey Nwabeke told Complete Sports.“
So, we’re working hard to achieve that goal. We have three outstanding matches, and we are focused on securing nine points from those games.”
El-Rufai breaks silence on dumping APC for PDP
Former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has denied reports of rumors of him dumping the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Posting on X, the former governor wrote: “Please disregard the patent lies and rumors about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers.”

Liverpool failed to pull away significantly from their Premier League rivals, following a 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Sunday. Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Brighton yesterday meant that the Reds could go eight points clear.
The first half ended goalless at Anfield, with both sides struggling to create clear chances. But it was United who took the lead, thanks to a sensational finish from Lisandro Martinez. Liverpool were level within five minutes through Cody Gakpo and took the lead after Mohamed Salah stroked home a penalty.
However, Amad Diallo ensured that Ruben Amorim’s men left with a point, as he tapped in Alejandro Garnacho’s cross. The result means Liverpool remain six points clear of Arsenal with a game in hand.
Enyimba trash Black Bulls 4-1 in Uyo
Enyimba Football Club of Aba beat the Black Bulls of Mozambique 4-1 on Sunday in a CAF Confederation Cup match held in the Akwa Ibom State capital. Enyimba, which had lost 3-0 to the Black Bulls in December 2024 in Maputo, recorded an emphatic result to the joy of its fans. The Elephants took the lead in the 6th minute, with Joseph Atule opening the scoring, but a poor defense allowed the visiting team to equalize in the 12th minute through E. Ifoni.
However, Ifeanyi Ihemekwele restored Enyimba’s lead in the 45th minute, with the first half ending at 2-1. The second half saw Enyimba adopt a more attacking approach in search of additional goals. Turkey: Okereke on target in Gaziantep’s draw against Kasimpasa

CAF Confederation Cup: Ideye inspires Enyimba to first group game win
Former Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye came off the bench to score on his CAF Confederation Cup debut as Enyimba thrashed Black Bulls of Mozambique 4-1 on Sunday evening. It was Enyimba’s first win in the group stage of the competition.
The People’s Elephant took the lead after six minutes through Joseph Atule. Ejaita Ifoni, however, equalized for the visitors six minutes later. Ifeanyi Ihemekwele restored the home team’s lead in the 45th minute.
Ideye increased Enyimba’s lead in the 68th minute, dribbling past Black Bulls goalkeeper before slotting the ball home. Atule got his second of the game on the dot of the 90th minute. Enyimba are now third in Group D standings with four points from four matches.
