EPL: Chelsea’s Madueke calls the best player he’s ever played with “unbelievable.”

Chelsea player Noni Madueke has described former club defender Thiago Silva as the ‘best player he’s ever played with.’ Madueke called Silva incredible and highlighted his strong leadership qualities. “The best player I’ve played with?” “I would likely choose Thiago Silva,” Madueke said to Amazon Prime Video. “He’s truly amazing.” I would occasionally spar with him during training and think, “this guy is twice my age.” “And he can still take the ball from me… He was an excellent player and a strong leader.” He was a wonderful person to be around. Silva secured multiple trophies in Brazil, Italy, and France before joining Chelsea for the 2020-21 season. He was among the top performers in the Premier League, earning Chelsea’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year honors in 2023. Ultimately, he departed from Chelsea at the conclusion of the last season to rejoin his childhood club Fluminense as a free agent.

Boko Haram launches assaults on ISWAP, many dead

Members of the Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad, commonly referred to as Boko Haram, have executed a series of coordinated assaults against the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in northern Borno State. These assaults have led to considerable casualties and the capture of significant equipment. Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the attacks occurred between December 23 and 24, targeting known ISWAP strongholds in Toumbun Gini, Mangari, Toumbun Saje, and Metele, resulting in numerous ISWAP militants being killed. He also noted that the JAS fighters managed to overpower ISWAP forces, capturing 20 motorcycles and demolishing several camps. “The attacks have compelled ISWAP to vacate its camps, and the group is now concentrating on rebuilding its forces while avoiding direct confrontations with JAS for the time being,” he stated in a post on X. Meanwhile, there has been no response from the Nigerian military or security agencies regarding the situation.

Super Eagles: Eguavoen makes requests regarding foreign coach

Augustine Eguavoen, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has urged for a swift decision regarding the appointment of a permanent head coach for the Super Eagles. Eguavoen stepped in as interim head coach in September and led the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. However, the NFF is still in search of a foreign coach to manage the three-time African champions. Eguavoen has called on the federation to expedite the hiring process in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which will begin in March 2025. “We need everyone on board; our goal is to qualify for the World Cup,” Eguavoen stated during an interview with Kennis FM. “March is fast approaching.” If we need to take action regarding the team, we must do it swiftly. “That person should arrive as soon as possible, get settled, so we can discuss, make adjustments, share ideas, and talk about the next steps.” “The sooner, the better.”

1,500 inmates escape in Mozambique amid jailbreak

On Wednesday, more than 1,500 inmates escaped from a prison in Maputo, taking advantage of ongoing unrest that began following the controversial confirmation of the long-established Frelimo party as the winner of recent elections. The National Police Chief, Bernardino Rafael, announced in a press conference that 1,534 inmates broke free from the high-security facility located approximately 15 kilometers from the capital. He noted that 33 escapees were killed and 15 were injured during confrontations with prison staff. Additionally, he reported that a search operation, supported by the military, resulted in the capture of around 150 fugitives. “About 30 of the escapees have ties to armed groups responsible for unrest and attacks in Cabo Delgado province over the past seven years. We are especially worried about this situation,” Rafael remarked. On Monday, the highest court in the Portuguese-speaking African nation confirmed that Frelimo, in power since 1975, won the presidential election held on October 9, which had already led to weeks of turmoil. Frelimo secured 65.17 percent of the votes, roughly five points lower than the preliminary results released by the electoral commission.

2027: Kwankwaso pledges to diminish APC’s power in Kano

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party, has pledged to “dramatically decrease the number of votes for the All Progressives Congress in Kano State in the 2027 elections.” Kwankwaso revealed this during a meeting at his home in Kano on Wednesday with former councillors and senior special advisers from the previous administration. He thanked his team for their dedication during the 2023 elections, noting that their efforts led to the Peoples Democratic Party receiving only 15,000 votes in Kano. Kwankwaso credited this achievement to the NNPP’s impressive performance, accomplished despite being a new political party with a late-starting campaign. “Now, it’s our opportunity to reduce APC’s power.” “We will put in relentless effort to bring their votes down to under 15,000 in Kano by 2027,” he stated. The former governor highlighted the importance of commitment and grassroots organization to strengthen the NNPP’s status as a leading force in Kano and beyond. Kwankwaso encouraged his supporters to stay focused on achieving outcomes that would ensure the party’s success in upcoming elections.

“Crisis is approaching in Enugu PDP” – Party leader warns Gov Mbah

Mr. Sunday Ikechukwu Damian, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, has alerted Governor Peter Mbah about an alleged effort by Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, a House of Representatives member for the Awgu/Oji-River/Aninri Federal Constituency, to oust all elected ward executives of the party in the area. Damian expressed his concerns in a statement released to the media on Thursday. He claimed that Onwuegbu recently met with the state PDP chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, seeking his support to remove the current ward executive members. According to Damian, Onwuegbu’s intention is to replace them with candidates of his choosing. He remarked, “We were initially skeptical about the rumors, but as time went on, it became clear that there might be truth to it. This was further confirmed last week when Dr. Uche Ugochukwu led Engr.” Anayo Onwuegbu is set to meet with the state chairman, Dr. Chukwunweike, at his home to address this concerning and undemocratic agenda. “According to a reliable source, the PDP Enugu State chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, informed Omeiheukwu and Dr. Uche Uzochukwu that he would consult with the Chief of Staff at the Enugu State Government House and get back to them.” “The newly elected ward executives are worried that since taking office, Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu has not convened a meeting with Oji River stakeholders or the communities of Oji, Awgu, and Aninri to update them on the mandate entrusted to him.” “Since his swearing-in as the representative for Oji River/Awgu/Aninri, his actions have primarily focused on further dividing the region into smaller factions.” He suggested that instead of spending money to remove the ward leaders, the lawmaker should support and guide them towards progress. “Does this mean that Engr Onwuegbu’s Christmas gift to the Party in Oji River LGA is to dismiss the ward executives rather than provide them with bags of rice like his peers? “Engr Anayo Onwuegbu (Omeiheukwu) should realize that the current ward executives of Oji River LGA were involved in electing the new local government executives. “They also voted for the current executive chairman of Oji River LGA, Greg Anyaegbudike.” Similarly, they also took part in and supported the current PDP ENUGU State executives led by Dr. Martin Chukwunweike. “If he does not acknowledge the Oji River Local Government ward executives, then he should also dismiss the Zonal and State executives of PDP in Enugu State,” he added. “The law states that once you associate with the whole, you are automatically affiliated with the parts,” he continued. The party leader further remarked: “We are bringing to the attention of the governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Barr Peter Mbah, these undemocratic practices, which would be detrimental to the party. “We also urge the state party chairman to combat these disruptive plans from those who do not have the party’s or the state’s best interests at heart. “For Dr. Uche Uzochukwu, our advice is to take action while the opportunity is available and distance himself from anything that could destabilize the party. “Anyone taking steps that could create confusion in the party is engaging in anti-party activities and should be cautioned accordingly.” Attempts to obtain responses from the legislator were not successful by the time this report was filed.

South Korea: Opposition party announces intention to impeach acting President Han

South Korea’s main opposition party has announced plans to introduce a bill aimed at impeaching acting President Han Duck-soo. The Democratic Party warned that they would move to impeach Han if he did not quickly appoint three justices to fill vacancies on the Constitutional Court. Although Parliament approved three nominees on Thursday, Han has yet to formally appoint them. The court is currently addressing the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol following his martial law declaration on December 3. Democratic Party floor leader Park Chan-dae commented that Han lacks the qualifications and willingness to uphold the Constitution. Should Han be impeached, the finance minister would take over as acting president. The Democratic Party holds a majority in Parliament, but there is contention regarding whether a simple majority or a two-thirds vote is required for Han’s impeachment. Earlier on Thursday, Han stated that he would delay the justices’ appointments until the political parties reach a consensus, arguing that bypassing agreement would disrupt constitutional order. Despite mounting pressure, there is disagreement among the parties about Han’s authority to make the appointments. The court is scheduled to hold its first hearing on Friday to determine Yoon’s removal or reinstatement. According to the Constitution, six justices must concur to remove an impeached president, so current justices must vote unanimously against Yoon. Court Spokesperson Lee Jean noted in a media briefing that Yoon, impeached by Parliament on December 14 with votes from some members of his own party, has not yet submitted the required legal documents to the court. Yoon’s ongoing defiance has led to criticism and calls for his arrest from the opposition.

Sporting Lisbon Terminates Amorim’s Successor After Only 8 Games

Joao Pereira, who took over from Ruben Amorim at the prominent Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, has been dismissed after only eight matches in charge. Sporting Lisbon announced Pereira’s departure on their X account on Thursday, saying, “A Lion forever… Thank you Joao Pereira.” Pereira was elevated from his position as the manager of Sporting Lisbon’s B team after Amorim left to manage Manchester United. Amorim brought his entire coaching staff to Old Trafford and suggested Pereira for the head coach position. However, since his promotion, Pereira, a former Portugal international, has only achieved three victories. When Amorim departed, Sporting was at the top of the league with an unbeaten streak, but they now find themselves one point behind the leaders, Benfica. Their most recent setback occurred on Sunday when they were held to a scoreless draw against mid-table team Gil Vincente. Despite Pereira having been in charge for just a month, Sporting’s management has decided to take action due to numerous mistakes and fan protests following the draw. Meanwhile, Amorim has experienced a challenging start at Old Trafford, suffering disappointing results. The latest blow for Manchester United was a surprising 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at home, which was unexpected after they had recently defeated their rivals, Manchester City, at the Etihad. Christmas: Adventurers overcome challenges and push past fear to celebrate

Christmas celebrations weren’t entirely bleak, as revelers in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, overcame economic difficulties and fears of overcrowding to gather at parks to celebrate this year’s holiday. A DAILY POST correspondent visited major recreational areas in Abuja on Wednesday and noted that many people flocked to the parks. This was evident at well-known spots like Millennium Park, Jabi Park, Magic Land, Jabi Lake Mall, and other leisure centers in the capital. “We had no choice.” In addition to being a celebration, this is a holiday, and we must find ways to enjoy ourselves despite the financial difficulties, said Abuja resident Mabel Okereke to DAILY POST at Jabi Park. Mr. Mohammed Bawa added, “It’s a holiday regardless of the challenges the country is experiencing.” “Indeed, life is challenging for many people in Nigeria, especially in light of the recent stampede events in Abuja, Okija, and Ibadan,” he stated. In response, Gbolade Idakolo, the Chief Executive Officer of SD & D Capital Management, mentioned that the recreational and entertainment sector could assist President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in reaching his $1 trillion economy goal if utilized effectively. “This isn’t surprising.” The industry is worth billions of dollars. “Funseekers make extra efforts to fulfill their desires,” he said. Meanwhile, DAILY POST remembers that at least 70 people, including children, lost their lives in food stampedes in Abuja, Okija, Anambra, and Ibadan, Oyo State, just days before Christmas. These tragic events sparked outrage among Nigerians, leading to blame directed at the organizers and government officials. This occurs as Nigerians struggle with the effects of high overall and food inflation rates, which were reported at 34.60 percent and 39.93 percent, respectively, by the National Bureau of Statistics in November.
