Ontario criticism delays the agreement in order to concentrate on possible early elections.

Ontario’s established opposition is putting off its annual protocol in order to concentrate on a statewide election campaign that its planners believe is in imminent danger of sinking the minority Liberal government and triggering an early election. After its national girl group declared it would no longer back Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and supported the Conservative Party’s efforts to elicit an early vote, the Ontario NDP made the decision over the weekend to prolong its agreement. The Ontario NDP and its followers had planned to hold the agreement in downtown Toronto in early January, but it had originally been scheduled to take place in January. The group decided to forgo the event in order to focus on a campaign ahead of an earlier federal election. The Ford state might be able to start a snap election in Ontario as also, which the top has danced around without specifying in any way. 22: 54
Focus Ontario: Everything But an Election Call” With lock provincial and federal votes looking extremely good in first 2025, the Ontario NDP Provincial Convention has been postponed”, a statement posted to the festival’s website explained. The group is putting resources that could have been used to organize a possible early election campaign back to the agreement. The NDP has moved its focus from nominating as some new applicants as it can across the state, more charity, and trying to introduce head Marit Stiles to as many areas as possible through the spring because the politicians are not anticipated to return to Queen’s Park to question again until March. Premier Doug Ford is making the switch as he examines an early election, a rumor that has been floating around since May and one that Ford has not explicitly refute despite being repeatedly questioned. • Which parts of Canada will see a light Christmas? How’s the projection

The weather will have a significant impact on Canada’s Christmas plans now that it is in full swing and households are willing to collect. Global News scientist Ross Hull says Canadians may assume a different Christmas this year, with some areas seeing new frost, others rain-soaked streets, and some even experiencing a gentler, snow-free vacation. What will be in business for the upcoming weeks is presented in this article. The Christmas season will observe some stormy wind explore British Columbia’s beach. ” It’s going to be windy on the B. C. Coast. A particular wind statement has already issued a warning about a number of storms moving in. But with wind being the priority along with rains, it’s definitely not going to be a white Christmas for Vancouver, although there will be some winter in the B. C. Interior with this”, Hull said. Environment Canada issued a unique temperature alert for Metro Vancouver, B.C.’s southern coastline, and Vancouver Island on Monday, caution of a low-pressure system off the coast that will start Monday afternoon and build up to strong winds through the evening. West Vancouver Island’s coastal areas was experience flooding as a result of wind wave, but the program is expected to clean out before Tuesday morning, according to Environment Canada. A strong lateral system will arrive early on Wednesday morning in Vancouver Island and the province’s southern coast on Christmas Day. The temperature agency added that extremely strong winds and heavy rainfall are expected to continue throughout the day and end at night. 2: 52
    B. C. night wind forecast: Dec 22This Christmas, Albertans may expect a bit of gentle weather across the state. ” Calgary is going to get into some slight parameters”, Hull said. ” Pieces of southern Alberta does not experience a white Christmas simply because of the mild weather that has recently come and is anticipated heading into Christmas Day. But a lot of snow melting”.In Calgary, temps will be relatively minor, reaching a high of around 7 C on Tuesday, followed by warmer weather with a great of 2 C on Christmas Day. Early on Tuesday, there will be an increase in moisture in Edmonton, with a chance of rain by late afternoon and the possibility of freezing rainfall. A beautiful day will be observed on Christmas Day with a large of 0 C. 1: 54
Calgary aircraft ramps up operations for active holiday travel seasonFor Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Saskatchewan and Manitoba may experience cold temperatures, though never unusually windy for the prairie provinces, Hull said. Saskatchewan and Manitoba are covered in enough snow to be a” white Christmas.” However, Hull said that the pattern will be milder, especially given what is normal for a late December day in the area. ” But calm and mild compared to the typical for the Prairies.” In Saskatchewan, fog patches are anticipated to develop in Regina later on Monday night. On Tuesday, increasing moisture will move in by later afternoon, with cloud areas clearing in the morning. The temperature will rise to 0 C on Christmas Eve, with a great of -3 C and a high of -5 C due to the wind frost, which will make the temperature feel like -14 C. Saskatoon may experience more skies than light on Christmas Day, with temperatures around -2 C. On Christmas Eve, Winnipeg will have typically cloudy skies with a possibility of flurries. The great will achieve -2 C, but with the wind shiver, it may feel like -16 C in the morning and -8 C in the evening. Christmas Day will be cloudy, with a high of 1 C. 1: 34
As the holidays approach, southern Saskatchewan experiences a deep chill. A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for parts of Ontario, including Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area ( GTA ), as snow is expected to fall in the area on Monday, according to Environment Canada. ” With this Clipper system that’s used in this moving from today into tomorrow morning, Ontario could see a fresh helping of snow.” So we likely will see a white Christmas for much of Ontario”, Hull said. The system that generates the heaviest snowfalls hits tonight into Tuesday morning. That system will have cleared by Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, leaving only moderately wet weather and enough snowfall for a white Christmas, he added. Areas with more snowfall are likely to have less visibility and make for challenging travel conditions, with icy roads and snow-covered roads posing additional risks. In Toronto and the GTA, total snowfall accumulations of five to 15 cm are anticipated, according to Environment Canada. Trending Now

Global News at 6 Toronto: Dec. 22, 2024The snow is expected to taper off to flurries by late Monday evening, with a risk of freezing drizzle developing afterward, the weather agency said. Additionally, there is a chance of rain and a chance of it drizzleing in the area on Tuesday. Parry Sound, Bracebridge, Smiths Falls, and areas north of Kingston have also received a snowfall warning. On Monday, Toronto Pearson International Airport announced that 127, 000 passengers would be expected to pass through the airport. The airport anticipates that the evening will be the heaviest part of Monday’s snowfall. ” Our surface maintenance team is prepared to clear the runways by plowing, sweeping, and blowing snow to ensure safe arrivals and departures”, Toronto Pearson said. Snow is also on the way for parts of Quebec, Hull warned. He explained that Quebec will also be affected by the same snow system that affects parts of Ontario. Environment Canada issued a travel advisory for southern Quebec on Monday that would go into effect on Monday and Tuesday. Travel could be impacted by an accumulation of 10 to 15 cm of snow, especially at the beginning of the holiday season. Be ready to adjust your driving style as the road conditions change. Take caution when driving or walking through the affected areas. If you must drive, be prepared for areas of poor visibility”, Environment Canada said. 1: 51
Montreal braces for messy winter weatherMost areas along Canada’s East Coast will see a fresh blanket of snow this Christmas. ” After a large dumping of snow over the weekend in places like Halifax, there’s another system, that same system that’s moving through Ontario and Quebec, that will move through tomorrow, also bringing another five to 10 cm of snow for Halifax”, Hull said. They will enter the snow, and the Maritimes will experience a white Christmas. And for Newfoundland as well, they’re going to get some flurries with that system as well”, he said. Environment Canada has released a unique weather forecast for much of Nova Scotia’s continental region. On Christmas Eve, snowfall is anticipated, which will start early on Tuesday morning and last until early on Wednesday morning. An estimated five to 10 cm is expected to fall, while areas in Annapolis, Digby and Yarmouth counties could see up to 15 cm. 3: 43

After being negatively impacted by hurricanes in the previous quarter, sales of new U.S. single-family houses rebounded in November, but rising loan rates could hurt revenue next year. New home sales jumped 5.9 % to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 664, 000 units last month, the Commerce Department’s Census Bureau said on Monday. The sales rate for October was revised higher to a level of 627, 000 products from the earlier reported 610, 000 products. Economics polled by Reuters had forecast that new house profits, which account for around 15 % of U. S. home selling, would rise to a level of 660, 000 products. New house sales are counted at the filing of a deal, and can be dangerous on a month-to-month basis. They increased 8.7 % year on year in November. According to data from mortgage finance agency Freddie Mac, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage’s average rate increased to 6.72 % last week from 6.60 % the previous week. 1: 50

In a NYC subway car, a person is detained after the death of a woman who was lit on fire.

New York City police announced on Sunday that a “person of interest” in the early morning death of a person believed to have snuck onto a stable subway station before being purposefully lit on fire by a guy she didn’t know was being held in custody. Three high school students who recognized the assume reported him to the transport authorities who apprehended him. They had seen the suspect’s photos taken from police body cam video and distributed frequently by police. New Yorkers” came through again,” according to New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who described the incident as “one of the most depraved crimes one person could possibly commit against another human being.” The suspect and the lady, both of whom have not been identified, were riding a train station in Brooklyn at around 7:30 a.m. when the coach came to a halt, according to surveillance videos from the subway car, and arranged her clothes on blaze with what appeared to be a lighter. The woman’s clothing then “became fully engulfed in a matter of seconds”, Tisch said. The two were not known to one another, according to the police. Officers on a routine patrol at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station discovered the woman on fire, standing in the middle of the car after they smelled and saw the smoke. After the fire was extinguished, emergency medical personnel declared the woman dead at the scene. The suspect had remained at the scene and was seated on a bench on the subway platform, just outside the train car, according to Tisch. Body cameras worn by the officers caught a “very clear, detailed look” at the suspect and those images were publicly disseminated. Other transit officers later identified the man on another subway train after receiving a 911 call from the teenagers, radioed ahead to the next station, where more officers searched each car, searched each car, and ultimately apprehended him without incident, according to Chief of Transit Joseph Gulotta. When the man was taken into custody, a lighter was in his pocket, Tisch said. Trending Now

Gulotta stated that the investigation was advancing, including the suspect’s history and whether the victim was homeless. The incident occurred on Sunday in a New York subway system for the second time. Police arrived at the 61st Street-Woodside Station in Queens at 12:35 a.m. to respond to an emergency call for an assault in progress and discovered a 37-year-old man with a stab wound to his torso and a 26-year-old man with multiple slashes throughout his body. According to police, the older man was declared dead at a nearby hospital, while the younger man was still there. An investigation was continuing. New York Gov. Following a number of high-profile crimes committed on city trains this year, Kathy Hochul has sent New York National Guard members to the city’s subway system to assist police in conducting random searches of passengers ‘ bags for weapons. In order to assist with patrol during the holiday season, Hochul recently deployed additional members. According to Michael Kemper, chief security officer for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Hochul supported funding about a year ago to install video cameras on every train car in the New York subway system. On Sunday, he and other officials credited the cameras with assisting in the suspect’s swift identification. &amp, copy 2024 The Canadian Press

Following a reduction in work since the COVID-19 epidemic, the Great Lakes Fishery Commission reports a substantial increase in water fish populations across all five Great Lakes. The invasive species, which feeds parasitically on fish, poses a risk to the locations$ 7 billion fish. Sea Lampreys accidentally killed up to 40 pounds of bass during their parasite level by entering the Great Lakes in 1921 with their 150-tooth-filled tongues and serrated languages. Prior to marine fish control, the varieties killed far more fish than people, which resulted in significant economical and ecological harm. Control programs were put in place in 1958 that had previously reduced populations by over 90 %, but the pandemic stopped the slowing population growth in 2020 and 2021. As a result, thousands of marine fish eggs survived, resulting in the population boom seen immediately. In 2024, child water fish figures were 8, 619 higher than pre-covid statistics. The inhabitants in all five Great Lakes is higher than the goal, with the most recent increases occurring in Lake Superior and Ontario. As therapy resumes over time, populations in Lakes Michigan, Huron, and Erie have started to maintain. ” The increased presence in all rivers is not surprising given significantly reduced control efforts during 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic”, said Ethan Baker, Commision head and president of Troy, Michigan. ” Elevated and changing grownup sea lamprey frequency should be anticipated over the next year or two before turning up down.”

Matt Gaetz’ frequently’ paid for sex, including with small, U. S document alleges

Matt Gaetz was charged by the House Ethics Committee on Monday with “regularly” paying for gender, including with a 17-year-old woman, and using and buying illegal drugs while the Florida Republican was a member of Congress. Gaetz has denied all crime. The 37-page review by the republican section includes explicit information of sex-filled celebrations and vacations that Gaetz, then 42, took part in from 2017 to 2020 while representing Florida’s eastern north. Studies indicate that while in office, he violated a number of state laws that relate to sexual misconduct. ” The Committee determined there is considerable evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and different standards of conduct prohibiting adultery, legal assault, illicit drug use, illegal donations, special favors or privileges, and restriction of Congress”, the document states. The report completes a roughly five-year research into Gaetz, who spent the majority of his time in scandal-heavy Washington, which eventually caused President-elect Donald Trump to reject his election as attorney general. Although Gaetz just indicated that he would be interested in running for the empty Senate seats in Florida, his political future is uncertain. The report’s long-awaited release comes after at least one Democratic and all five Democrats on the screen earlier this month in a key vote to release it about their past colleague despite first opposition from GOP lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, who previously opposed the release of findings about a past member of Congress. While ethics reports have previously been released after a member’s resignation, it is extremely rare. Gaetz objected to its release, saying last week that as a former House member, he would have” no opportunity to debate or rebut” the findings. On Monday, Gaetz filed a lawsuit seeking to block the release of the report, which he says contains “untruthful and defamatory information” that would” significantly damage” his” standing and reputation in the community”. Gaetz’s complaint argues he’s no longer under the committee’s jurisdiction since he resigned from Congress. In their request for a temporary restraining order, Gaetz’s attorneys wrote in their request for a temporary restraining order that the Committee’s decision to publish potentially defamatory findings about a private citizen over whom it claims no jurisdiction represents an unprecedented expansion of Congressional power that threatens fundamental constitutional rights and established procedural protections. In addition to soliciting prostitution, the Ethics Committee report states that Gaetz “accepted gifts, including transportation and lodging in connection with a 2018 trip to the Bahamas, in excess of permissible amounts” .1: 32

Investigators claim that in the same year, he allegedly requested the services of his chief of staff to obtain a passport for a woman he had sex with while fabricating a false statement to the State Department that she was his constituent. One of the committee’s final pieces of” substantial evidence” revealed that Gaetz “intentionally and willfully sought to obstruct” the report. The report contains dozens of pages of exhibits, including text messages and financial records, travel receipts, checks and online payments among various people involved. In some of the text exchanges, Gaetz appears to be inviting various women to events, getaways or parties, and arranging airplane travel and lodging. He occasionally inquires about a woman’s ability to wear a” cute black dress.” There are also discussions of shipping containers. A text exchange appears to be occurring between two of the women concerned about their cash and payments in one of the exhibits. In another, a person asks Gaetz for help to pay an educational expense. Since 2021, the frequently secretive, bipartisan panel has been looking into allegations made against Gaetz. However, its work increased significantly last month when Trump chose him shortly after Election Day as his first choice for the top law enforcement officer in the country. Gaetz resigned from Congress that same day, putting him outside the purview of the Ethics Committee’s jurisdiction. However, even after Gaetz resigned as Trump’s nominee for the Justice Department, Democrats had pressed to make the report public. All but one Republican voted against the report’s release in a vote held on the House floor this month. &amp, copy 2024 The Canadian Press

Flight disturbance rule change proposals ‘ fall shorter,’ airlines tell Ottawa

The proposed new regulations on how to deal with aircraft disruptions, according to the National Airlines Council of Canada’s head, “feel little of” responding to concerns made by various organizations, including regions, unions, airports, and airlines. Jeff Morrison, president and CEO of the council, said” significant concerns” were raised by the different groups during consultations by the Canadian Transportation Agency ( CTA ) in 2023, with issues around regional connectivity, cost of air travel and ability to meet regulatory requirements all raised to officials. According to Morrison,” the proposed regulations do not take into account the difficult operational reality of airlines, because they provide for requirements that are expensive, burdensome, and do not take into account the complex functional reality of those companies,” they do not address these issues. ” If adopted, they would impact affordability and accessibility for Canadians” .On Saturday, the CTA put out their proposed new regulations on flights ‘ commitments to guests whose flights are disrupted, even when the delays or cancellations are caused by an “exceptional circumstances” outside the companies ‘ power. The Air Passenger Protection Regulations may require air companies to offer meals to people whose flights are delayed by at least two hours and, if approved, overnight accommodations. Payments would also have to be provided within 15 times, down from the latest 30-day condition, if a customer prefers to be reimbursed rather than rebooked when their trip is cancelled, delayed at least three hours, or they’re bumped from the trip. 2: 12
Air Canada ordered to pay family$ 10, 000Under the current federal rules, passengers must be compensated with up to$ 2, 400 if they were denied boarding because a trip was overbooked, with delays and other payments for cancelled flights warranting compensation of up to$ 1, 000. The “exceptional circumstances” noted by the CTA include security threats, unscheduled airport closures, bird strikes, weather or aircraft damage that could affect flight safety, among other examples. However, according to the new regulations, airlines are generally not required to compensate passengers for any inconveniences caused by those circumstances, but this article provides examples of when the carriers are required to do so despite those circumstances. ” The proposed amendments eliminate grey zones and ambiguity about when passengers are owed compensation, which will ensure quicker resolutions for passengers”, she said in a statement. The federal government should concentrate its efforts on enhancing the competitiveness of the overall air travel system and its affordability, he said,” and we strongly believe that the system needs to be made more affordable.” He added that this should include reviewing all federal fees and charges, as well as changing the CTA claims adjudication process to lessen the “existing backlog.” The 75-day feedback period is now available on the proposed changes. —with files from The Canadian Press&amp, copy 2024 Global News, a division of Corus Entertainment Inc.
