Ayib Daffé: “Before depending on the IMF, Senegal must rely on its own forces”

The European Parliament has adopted a resolution on the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Invited by the radio programme “Le Jury du dimanche”, the elected representative was also very critical of the old regime, calling into question the declarations of former President Macky Sall concerning a “hidden debt”. M. and Daffé first emphasised the need for the country to rely on its own assets. Repeating the Prime Minister’s words, he underlined the importance of this approach for development. “What the Prime Minister said is important, because he also reminded that Senegal counts first on its own forces. Because all the developed countries, in any case, which have managed to get out of poverty, if we take the example of the Asian countries, or even the European countries or well in Latin America, have at first relied on their own forces”, he said. However, he had to clarify that this principle does not amount to a response to self: ” Relying on one’s own strength does not mean living in autarky. It does not mean in any case to be in a posture of repli on soi, but it is simply to say that we will firstly rely on our endogenous resources, we will firstly rely on human capital, on our youth, on our national private sector, on our diaspora.
