
The Osun State Police Command has deployed officers of the Police Mobile Force, MOPOL, and other tactical squads for vigorous patrols, intelligence-led operations, and combing of bushes to beef up security across the boundaries of Osun State.
The deployment is aimed at flushing out criminal elements and dismantling bandit hideouts within boundary communities in compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
According to a statement by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, made available by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the deployment follows recent kidnapping and bandit attacks in Ora-Igbomina town, Ifedayo Local Government Area of the state.
DAILY POST had earlier reported that panic ensued in Ora town on Monday evening when bandits abducted Emmanuel Owolabi.
A community chief identified as Dennis was also killed by the bandits as they escaped into the bush.
The statement reads in part: “The Osun State Police Command, in collaboration with the State Government under the leadership of the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, in view of the recent kidnapping and bandit attack at Ora-Igbomina, and in compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode A. Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, has deployed officers of the Police Mobile Force (MOPOL) and other tactical squads for vigorous patrols, intelligence-led operations, and combing of bushes to beef up security across the boundaries of Osun State, flush out criminal elements, and dismantle bandit hideouts within our boundaries.
“This deployment is aimed at strengthening security across the state and preventing further criminal activities.”
The Osun Police boss assured residents of adequate security coverage during the Yuletide and New Year holidays.
He also urged community members to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid ongoing operations across the state.
“Criminals are warned to desist from all forms of criminal activity, as security agencies are fully prepared to deal decisively with anyone found threatening public peace and safety,” the statement added.
