In an official note published by Jordi Vaquer, Secrétaire général de Metropolis, it is announced that Barthélemy Dias no longer assumes the functions of president of Metropolis. This situation results from his dismissal from the post of Mayor of Dakar”. In accordance with the statutes of Metropolis, this decision automatically brings an end to his mandate as president of our organization. In view of this exceptional situation, the Metropolis Executive Committee met on 8 January 2025 to assess the implications of this event and to define the measures to be adopted to ensure the continuity of our activities and the respect of the principles of governance”, the note states. The Executive Committee is currently working on the identification of a transitional solution to ensure the management of Metropolis pending the election of a new President, in accordance with the provisions laid down in the internal regulations. This approach is part of the objective of maintaining Metropolis’ commitment to its members and partners around the world. Metropolis, the global network of large cities and metropolitan areas, plays a key role in promoting sustainable urban development, international cooperation and the defence of the interests of metropolises on the world stage.
