The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, BASIEC, has fixed Tuesday, January 6, 2026, for by-elections in Zubo and Mainako wards of Shira and Zaki Local Government Areas of the state.
The Executive Chairperson of the Commission, Jummai Abubakar, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday in Bauchi by the Commissionās Information Officer, Ishiyaku Adamu.
Abubakar said the decision was in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Bauchi State Electoral Law of 2008 (as amended), and other relevant electoral laws.
According to her, the by-elections will hold in Zubo Ward of Shira Local Government Area and Mainako Ward of Zaki Local Government Area on the scheduled date.
She also disclosed that the by-election earlier slated for Tumfafi Ward in Shira Local Government Area in December 2025 has been postponed and rescheduled to hold alongside the January 2026 polls.
The BASIEC chairperson directed political parties and aspirants to obtain nomination forms from the respective Shira and Zaki Local Government Electoral Offices.
She added that the announcement serves as a formal notification to voters and other stakeholders in Tumfafi and Zubo wards of Shira Local Government Area, as well as Mainako Ward in Zaki Local Government Area, to prepare for the elections.
Abubakar urged eligible voters and stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully and actively participate in the electoral process.
