
The Bauchi State Government has provided relief materials to victims of recent communal clashes in Sansan and Garin Babbaji villages in Zaki Local Government Area.
DAILYPOST reports that tensions escalated last week in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State after the killing of a commercial motorcyclist and subsequent retaliatory attacks between two villages.
According to sources, the incident occurred on March 15 around 8:30 am when Saleh Ibrahim, also known as Saleh Bakarya, 35, of Sansan Village, was attacked while riding his motorcycle along the Jamaaren Fulani–Sansan Village road.
He was reportedly assaulted with a sharp object, believed to be a cutlass, and his motorcycle was seized. Saleh was rushed to General Hospital, Katagum, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger received treatment and was later discharged.
The following day, residents of Sansan Village reportedly attacked Jamaaren Fulani Village in retaliation, setting several houses on fire.
During the clashes, one Yahaya Haruna, 35, was injured after being shot with a bow and arrow.
Retaliating, the Fulani community reportedly laid siege to Sansan Village, chasing residents and burning homes.
Meanwhile, Army troops and other security personnel were deployed to restore calm.
During the intervention, one police officer and one army personnel sustained injuries and were taken to General Hospital, Katagum, for treatment.
Upon visiting the affected communities, Deputy Governor Mohammad Auwal Jatau called on the residents to remain law-abiding and embrace peace to sustain harmonious coexistence.
He said the intervention forms part of the government’s immediate response to cushion the impact of the crisis on affected families.
Jatau also commiserated with the victims and assured them of the government’s continued commitment to promoting mutual understanding and lasting peace among communities across the state.
In his remarks, the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency, Masud Aliyu, commended the government for the timely intervention, noting that the support would go a long way in easing the victims’ hardship.
