Bauchi police seize N784,000 from officers engaged in extortion and other wrongdoings.  

The Bauchi State Police Command has reported the recovery of N784,000 from officers engaged in misconduct, with the money returned to the victims of extortion. Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, shared this information in a statement outlining the command’s successes in 2024. Mohammed noted that the command’s Complaint Response Unit, part of the Police Public Relations Department, has been key in handling misconduct complaints from the public. “In 2024, we received 10 complaints against our officers, all of which were carefully investigated.” According to the police commissioner, N784,000 was recovered from officers deemed responsible, and the funds have been returned to the victims. He added that 18 officers were subjected to disciplinary measures for different types of professional misconduct. “One constable was terminated, four officers had their ranks lowered, six received warning letters, and four were reprimanded,” Mohammed stated. The commissioner assured the public of the command’s commitment to upholding professionalism and improving service delivery. “Our disciplinary actions demonstrate our commitment to high standards of conduct within the Force.” These efforts are intended to build public trust and make sure that accountability continues to be a fundamental part of our activities,” he stated.
