
The Bayelsa State Government has announced with deep regret and profound shock, the sudden death of Deputy Governor Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo.
In a statement issued on Friday, the government confirmed that Ewhrudjakpo passed away on Thursday, December 11, at the age of 60.
The official announcement, signed by the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, noted that the Deputy Governor had actively carried out his official duties earlier on the day he died.
“He collapsed while proceeding to a scheduled meeting within his office and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where he was later confirmed dead,” the statement read.
Governor Diri, on behalf of the government and people of Bayelsa State, extended “heartfelt condolences” to the deceased’s wife, Mrs Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, their children, the Ewhrudjakpo family, Ofoni Federated Community, and all citizens of the State, including former Governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.
In honour of the late Deputy Governor, Governor Diri has declared a three-day State Mourning, effective from Friday, December 12, 2025.
As a sign of respect, he has also directed that all flags across the state be flown at half-mast throughout the mourning period.
Lastly, the statement concluded with Governor Diri offering prayers for “God’s comfort and strength for the family and the entire state,” and wishing that the soul of the late Deputy Governor rests in the bosom of the Lord.
